Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women

Adopted in 1979 by the UN General Assembly and often described as an international bill of rights for women, it defines what constitutes discrimination against women ("...any distinction, exclusion or restriction made on the basis of sex which has the effect or purpose of impairing or nullifying the recognition, enjoyment or exercise by women, irrespective of their marital status, on a basis of equality of men and women, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field") and sets up an agenda for national action to end such discrimination.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Adopted and proclaimed by the UN General Assembly on December 10, 1948, along with a call to all Member countries to publicize the text of the Declaration and "to cause it to be disseminated, displayed, read and expounded principally in schools and other educational institutions, without distinction based on the political status of countries or territories." It is available in over 335 languages from this website.

Spiritual Caucus at the United Nations

Global Oneness Commitment

An internet petition launched 12/15/08 by prominent Turkish academics and newspaper columnists, apologizing for the "great catastrophe of 1915" when hundreds of thousands of Ottoman Armenians died in what international historians (despite the denial of the Turkisk government) now call genocide and the Turkish government.
